What's typically included in a £1,800 estimate?
Our standard install is a single Worcester Bosch air-to-air heat pump — one indoor unit, one outdoor unit — fully fitted, tested and commissioned. That typically covers:
- The unit itself, factory pre-charged with R32 refrigerant
- Wi-Fi control, set up and demonstrated on the day
- Pipework, trunking and mounting for a standard run (up to 5 metres)
- Full pressure test, vacuum and commissioning
- Up to a 5-year manufacturer warranty, registered on your behalf
If your outdoor unit needs a condensate pump instead of a simple gravity drain, that's a £145 supplement — so around £1,945 all in. Every estimate is confirmed exactly by Steve before you commit to anything, and there's no VAT to add on top.
What pushes the price up?
A few things change the number from job to job:
- Room size. A small bedroom needs a 2.0–2.5kW unit — that's the £1,800 starting estimate. A large open-plan kitchen-diner might need a 5kW or 7kW unit, which is typically estimated at £2,500–£3,600.
- Pipe run length. Standard units are pre-charged for runs up to 5 metres. Beyond that, we top up the refrigerant gas — usually a £100 charge.
- Multiple rooms. Cooling two or three rooms from one outdoor unit (a multi-split system) is typically estimated from £3,400 for two rooms and £4,600 for three, depending on pipe runs and electrics.
- Brand. Our standard install uses Worcester Bosch. If you want the ultra-quiet, designer-finish Mitsubishi Electric range, that's a premium option estimated from around £2,500 per room.
- Electrics. If your property doesn't already have a suitable spare circuit, a dedicated electrical supply adds around £360.

Why is air conditioning zero VAT?
This one catches people out because it sounds too good to be true, but it's genuine. Domestic air-to-air heat pump installations — which is what a residential air conditioning system is — are zero-rated for VAT under HMRC Notice 708/6 and the Value Added Tax Act 1994, Schedule 7A. This applies when the supply and installation are carried out together by a VAT-registered contractor, for a private domestic residence, with no mixed supply of other unrelated work. The zero-rate period runs from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2027 in Great Britain.
In practice, that means the confirmed price we quote you is the price you pay. No 20% added on at the end.
