How to unblock your sink

We have all experienced that slow draining sink that can drive you to insanity  Over a period of time your bath, basin, sink and toilets have a build up off soaps hair , old food and various other waste products, there are some really simple effective ways to deal with this this before paying a plumber to rectify this saving you your hard earned cash !!

I have put together a list of tips to get you started

  • Make sure the plug hole is clear of any debris

A common problem is the sink gets clogged up with Old food particles or hair etc. Really simple but quite often overlooked Just simply remove any waste and run the tap To wash away.

  • The good old fashion plunger!!

A really good unblocking tool is the good old fashioned plunger (there’s a good reason plumber’s are associated with these )widely available from any local DIY store you can simply apply pressure to the plug hole Pushing the blockage away (top tip. If you have. If you have an overflow. Be sure. To cover this. So you’re not pushing air  Straight out of the overflow).

drain wiresDrain wires

Drain wires can be bought from any local DIY store. They come in various different shapes and sizes but all have the same principle, check the instructions on how to use various different versions. It could be a real handy tool to unblock a trap. They loosen any debris/ blockage in the waste pipe. And then run water to flush them away.

Wet vacuumwet vacuum

Ah, now this is my favorite. If you own a wet vac a Really simple way To unblock a sink is to Simply put the hose into the Waste hole and turn on the wet vac This I find to be the most effective. Be careful when doing this, especially on shower trays and certain types of traps Because they Can Be damaged by the use of this method.

chemicalsChemicals

There are various different Chemicals on the market that you can use to unblock a sink Make sure you read the manufacturers instructions and use accordingly, Using. Too many chemicals can have an adverse effect On the pipework Within your property And also the environment another thing to consider is your skin  So be mindful. When using the products and only use them as the manufacturer specifies.

If all these methods failed then contact your local plumber to address the issue. I hope you found this blog helpful. And have a lovely day.
