How Much Does a New Boiler Cost in York?

That's the question everyone wants a straight answer to, and fair enough — it's a big purchase. So here's the honest version, not a "prices from £X" line buried in small print.

A like-for-like combi swap starts from £2,500. Converting to a different system — say, an old system boiler to a combi — starts from £3,500. Most jobs we do across York and the surrounding villages land somewhere in the £2,500–£6,000 range, depending on the boiler and what's already in the house. Nationally you'll see figures advertised anywhere from under £2,000 to £6,000+ — ours sit in that range because we size the boiler properly and don't cut corners on the install, not because we're the cheapest number on the page.

Want a figure for your actual home rather than a general range? Answer the five questions in the calculator above — it takes about a minute and you don't need to give us any details to see it.

What actually changes the price

  • Like-for-like vs conversion — swapping the same type of boiler for a newer version is the cheapest option. Changing the type, like system to combi, means more pipework and more labour.
  • Boiler size and brand — we fit Worcester Bosch and Ideal. Both have a range of models at different price points, sized to your home's hot water demand rather than the biggest one we can sell you.
  • Where the boiler is, and where it's going — moving it to a new location costs more than swapping it in the same spot.
  • What we find on the day — old, worn pipework or an undersized system sometimes needs attention alongside the boiler. We'll always tell you before doing anything unquoted.

Combi or system boiler — which do you need?

A combi gives you hot water on demand with no tank to run out, which suits most homes with one or two bathrooms. A system boiler keeps a hot water cylinder, so it copes better when more than one bathroom might be running at once — bigger families, bigger houses. The calculator above will recommend one based on what you tell us about your home. For the full breakdown, read our combi vs system boiler comparison.

Is it worth repairing your old boiler, or replacing it?

Rough rule of thumb: if a repair's going to cost more than about half the price of a new boiler, or your boiler's past 10–15 years old, you're usually better off replacing it — you stop pouring money into something on its way out. Under that, a repair's often the sensible call, and we'll tell you straight if that's the case rather than talking you into a new boiler you don't need yet.

How long does fitting a new boiler take?

Typically one day for a like-for-like swap. A system-to-combi conversion, or a boiler that's moving location, usually takes two to three days depending on the pipework involved. Either way, you'll know the timeline before we start — it's set out in your written quote.

Can you pay monthly for a new boiler?

We don't run a finance scheme ourselves — we keep things simple, with a deposit on jobs over £1,000 and the balance due on completion. If spreading the cost matters to you, mention it at your free visit and we'll talk you through it honestly, rather than steering you toward a finance plan that isn't ours to offer.
